A 'green' retail venture, we are a small set up based out of New Delhi, (North) India. Launched in September 2008, Green Somethings is a brand attached to Gokul Organics, an organic manure (more specifically Vermicompost) producer with its head office based in Chandigarh, (North) India.
Green Somethings started out as an online retailer of indoor plants which serve as a gifting alternative to cut-flowers, cakes and teddies that we feel have become too commonplace nowadays. With ever lasting value, our plant-gifts stand for positivism and prosperity - each time you gift-a-plant to a close one, you enthuse a sense of care and thoughtfulness upon that person. That, is what we believe and try to promote.
Green Somethings is now associated with two South Delhi based stores namely Tatsat and Ferns and Petals (click here to view store locations), and four exclusive online retailers including a Times Group online retail venture.
We have received incredible response for our products during retail exhibitions/fairs in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh.
You can read a tad more about Green Somethings in print media here.
And to read more on our events, go here.
Living up to our dedication to the 'green movement' we recently added a variety of eco-friendly and fair-trade products to our portfolio. These include garden accessories and organic manure; personal care products like handmade body soaps, all natural body lotions and scrubs, essential oils, lip balms; home decor products made of natural and recycled materials; organic baby clothing, handmade paper and elephant dung paper products; fair-trade bags, T-shirts, kids accessories and other personal accessories. All these products will be available on our online store soon.
Our Blog
The Green Somethings blog is our way of connecting with our customers and suppliers. While the webstore allows us only so much flexibility to talk about what we do on a day-to-day basis, we use this blog to share our ideas and successes as well as discuss inspiring stories from the world over.
We like to think of this blog as a window to our business. A window that is open for a peek to all our customers, suppliers and patrons.
Then what else? We not only believe in adopting 'green' in every aspect of our lives but marvel at those who don't understand that if you're not green, you're just not smart. Seriously. At the alarming rate that the world population is growing and the world's resources are getting depleted, what bigger signal are we waiting for? We believe it is this inversely proportional relationship between the world's population and resources that is leading to all the frustrations, hatred and violence. If there is something we can do, it has to be done now. And it has to be done responsibly.
Although the 'go green' mantra has finally hit the mark in the last couple of years there are many who don't understand green in its entirety. For such, here's some Green 101. Green Somethings believes and promotes each of the green elements below:
Green - A philosophy and social movement that centers around protecting the physical environment and promoting social responsibility.
Organic - Food and food derivatives grown using only natural fertilizers and non-chemical pest control methods while conserving soil and water in which they are grown. No bioengineering or ionizing radiation is used during the production or sell process of organic products .
Natural - Products made from environment friendly or non-chemical substances that are completely bio-degradable.
Handmade - Items that are not mass produced and are made by an individual or individuals without or with minimal use of (exhaustible) energy-consuming machines.
Fair Trade - A market-based approach that supports marginalized producers (mostly in developing countries) by payment of a "fair price" as well as advocating fair social and environmental standards in areas where the goods are produced.
Sustainable - Responsible and morally right choices in the development, manufacturing and consumption of products that ultimately aids the replenishment of resources for future generations.

Press Release: Avoid exhaust fumes when biking to work, notes spoof-tailpipe creator
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Avoid exhaust fumes when biking to work, notes spoof-tailpipe creator
Washington, DC - May 19, 2010 -- Biking to work can be invigorating and healthy, but for many it could be harmful.
A ride along a busy street means increased exposure to vehicle exhaust and its long list of pathogens, including carbon monoxide, soot, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, benzene and formaldehyde, which can cause asthma, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Riders may want to choose a route with little car and truck traffic, notes a clean-air activist who created a fake exhaust pipe accessory to draw attention to the dangers of car exhaust.
His spoof “Monoxitube” campaign challenges every driver to “Face Your Exhaust.” The Monoxitube is a 25-foot tube that hypothetically attaches to the exhaust pipe of a car or truck, wraps around the vehicle and slides into the driver’s side window, sending the exhaust straight into the driver’s seat, instead of towards bicyclists.
Clean-air proponent Dave Doctor got the idea for the spoof one morning during his walk to work along busy roads. "I wanted to remind drivers about the toxicity of car exhaust. The Monoxitube idea makes that point in a vivid way," said Doctor. "No one would drive with the exhaust going into the car. So why is it acceptable to send carbon monoxide and soot out the back of the car and into the air where it will be inhaled by bicyclists and pedestrians?”
The product's website suggests more than 15 ways drivers can protect themselves and others from car exhaust. Ideas range from telecommuting or taking a bus to creating pedestrian malls free of car exhaust.
To help bicyclists, the site suggests purchasing vehicles designed with tailpipes on the left side, since bicyclists ride to the right. For example, most truck exhaust pipes point to the right.
If you're participating in Bike to Work Day, try a road less traveled to avoid vehicle exhaust. It might take more time, but your heart and lungs will thank you.
